Nondegree Application
How to Apply
If you are interested in taking courses as a part-time nondegree undergraduate student but do not intend to earn a degree from the University, you will need to submit the nondegree application.
If you are interested in earning a degree from the University, you must complete the degree-seeking undergraduate application. If you are unable to attend as a full-time student, contact your college office once you are admitted to seek permission to attend on a part-time basis. Please note that you are not eligible for financial aid if you attend as a part-time student.
If you have previously attended the University of Illinois as a nondegree student for the fall or spring term or as a degree-seeking student, you do not need to submit a nondegree application. You will need to contact the college office which offers the courses in which you are interested. If you previously attended the University of Illinois as a nondegree student for the summer term only, you do not need to submit another application if you wish to enroll for the summer term only again. You will be authorized to register for the summer. But, if you want to take courses in the fall or spring term, you need to submit a nondegree application.
Course enrollment for spring or fall requires the approval of the department offering the course and the college of enrollment at the beginning of each semester. Please note the Colleges of Applied Health Sciences, Business, Media and Education and the Institute of Aviation do not consider nondegree applicants due to space constraints in courses.
Preference for nondegree admission for the spring or fall term will be given to (1) employees of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, (2) applicants who are permanent residents of the Champaign-Urbana community, and (3) applicants who are trying to take courses that are not offered anywhere else in the state of Illinois. Please read the complete nondegree application for other restrictions.
Due to space limitations for admission and due to government regulations on student visas, international students are unable to apply for nondegree admission for the spring and fall terms. However, international students currently in the US and holding a visa that allows part-time or full-time study are able to apply for nondegree admission for the summer term only.
November 30 is the deadline for spring nondegree applications. July 31 is the deadline for fall nondegree applications. Applicants interested in applying for the summer term should apply as soon as possible after February 1. Nondegree applications from University of Illinois employees are accepted through the first day of class.
If applying for the spring or fall term, you must submit a transcript (official or unofficial) showing your highest level of academic achievement along with your application and fee ($40). If applying for the summer term only, you must sign that you are currently in good academic standing when completing the application. The $40 fee is also required for the summer term only application.
