Campustown

The Illini Union and Green Street

The Illini Union always has something fun happening, like Illi-nights, where students can do interesting activities, such as sumo wrestle, sing karaoke, and get henna tattoos – all for free. You’ll also find career fairs and comfortable study areas at the Union. Green Street is close to the Quad and the perfect place to meet up with friends. Every convenience is available here, from restaurants and banks to shops and salons. At night, catch some live music or watch a game at your favorite hangout.

John Street and Daniel Street

Walk south of Green Street and you’ll hit John and Daniel Streets, another lively section of campustown. This is where you can find a variety of food at any hour, such as baked treats, Chinese food, and sandwiches. You can also stop by a bookstore or rent a movie.

Nevada Street

While in Urbana, head over to Nevada Street for food for every taste: empanadas, pad thai, barbeque, and a vegan restaurant. Go shopping at places friendly to a student budget or check out one of the cultural houses, especially for the annual I-Celebrate and Taste of Nevada, celebrations of various cultures with food and entertainment. From ice cream socials to salsa dancing, there’s always something going on.

Champaign-Urbana

As a thriving arts and culture community, Champaign-Urbana is the perfect place for students to explore beyond campus. Venture to downtown Champaign to shop at boutiques or grab a cup of coffee. Visit Urbana to try a specialty restaurant, or browse an art gallery. Annual events in C-U include the Boneyard Arts Festival; Ebertfest at the Virginia Theater, hosted by film critic and Illinois alum Roger Ebert; the Farmers Market; and the Sweetcorn Festival. More information about the area can be found at www.visitchampaigncounty.org and the217.com.
