Fraternity and Sorority Housing

Fraternities and Sororities make up the Greek system at Illinois. We have the largest Greek community, per capita, in the nation and over 30% of the more than 100 fraternities and sororities are culturally based. There are a number of Greek houses in which to live: 43 fraternities and 20 sororities have houses designated as University Recognized Housing. Each facility is privately owned and operated. Rates vary but are comparable to other living options offered near campus.
Generally, membership to a fraternity or sorority must first be granted before living in the respective houses is permitted. Recruitment varies with each organization. More information on the Greek community and housing.

Transfer Housing

Transfer students may choose to live within the transfer student cluster in the Champaign Residence Halls. Other options include Graduate Housing, which is open to students who are at least 20 years old, family housing, and University-run apartments. Students interested in apartments may wish to check out the Daily Illini newspaper. Those interested in apartment living should consult the Tenant Union before signing a lease.
