One-on-One

What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and relax?
I absolutely love to hang out and study in the Illini Union. The Courtyard Café in the Union is a great place to hang out with friends and work on group projects. In addition, my favorite place to study and write papers is the President’s Lounge, a quiet room with large leather furniture and tables, also located in the Union. When the sun’s out, the Quad is my favorite place to read, play Frisbee and just hang out.

What clubs or organizations on campus are you involved with?
I am an active member of a social sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. In addition to participating in sisterhood events, I am the vice president of education and a member of the executive recruitment committee. I sing in our chapter’s choir, Encore, serving as its assistant chairwoman. I am also involved in the Illini Union Board fall and spring musicals, such as “Into the Woods,” “My Fair Lady,” “Pippin,” and currently “Urinetown.” I am also a campus tour guide, so I might be leading your campus visit tour.

Why and how did you choose your major?
I chose to be a history major because of my fascination with the subject and its application to current events; I feel it constantly affects us today making it very worthwhile for further study. I chose to be a double major by adding English to my education because I love to read and write, and I wanted to develop these skills.

Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
One of my most memorable experiences was waiting in line for Rose Bowl tickets at Assembly Hall. To wait in line for more than seven hours in the freezing cold with fellow Illini football fans and then be greeted by the players and Coach Zook demonstrated the true Illini Pride and spirit.

What is your advice to prospective students?
Get involved. Aside from academics, the greatest attribute of Illinois is the numerous organizations that students can become involved. There is something out there of interest to everyone, so get involved with whatever you can. This involvement is what makes Illinois special, truly enabling it to become your home away from home.
