One-on-One
What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and relax?
To study, I hit up the Undergraduate Library, Grainger Library, ACES Library, or find my way to the President’s Room in the Illini Union. For hang out spot, I head to my apartment, my friends’ apartments, the Illini Union, the High Dive, or the Siam Terrace. And when I need to relax and I can find the time, I sleep.
What clubs or organizations on campus are you involved with?
As the philanthropy chair for the Business Council, I plan and organize philanthropic events and volunteering opportunities for the Business Council and the College of Business students. The assistant Dean for Honors leads the Business Honors Program to develop our leadership skills and help prepare us for our professional careers.
Why and how did you choose your major?
I chose marketing as my major because I’m a people person. I like talking to people, figuring out what their needs and problems are and then figuring out how to solve them. I really couldn’t see myself behind a desk crunching numbers, so I combined my personality, skills, and goals to find the best major for me.
Describe your most memorable experience at Illinois.
When I was president of B.A.T.S., Beautiful and Together Sisters, which is the Black Student Union for the Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall, we sold out the Lincoln Theater for our annual fashion show. We had to turn away more than 100 people. It was amazing, and I was so proud of the success of the show.
What is your advice to prospective students?
Make a list of goals you want to accomplish and a list of characteristics you want in a university. Picking a college is definitely not an easy task, but it’s a decision only you can make. Once you figure out what you want in life and what you want out of your education, pick the college that can help you get to where you want to go.
