The Illinois Advantage
Large research universities like the University of Illinois offer unlimited opportunities to students, such as:
- wide range of academic programs
- large variety of study abroad options and programs
- broad spectrum of undergraduate research options
- impressive number of student clubs and organizations
There are several myths and stereotypes associated with large schools. For example, you may hear that big universities are impersonal environments where students have limited access to faculty and most classes are held in large lecture halls with hundreds of students. These stereotypes aren’t necessarily true.
At Illinois, we are devoted to connecting our students to campus resources, staff, and faculty as soon as they arrive on campus. In fact, 66.5% of 100-level classes have fewer than 25 students.
We provide programs for freshmen that focus on assisting with the transition to Illinois, including the following:
Additionally, by becoming involved in one or more of our approximately 1,000 student organizations, you'll meet many people with similar interests. This will help you form strong connections to campus and make it seem much smaller.
